Dubai International Arabic Calligraphy Exhibition
Dubai Art Season 2017 will witness the ninth edition of Dubai International Arabic Calligraphy Exhibition, which is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council. The exhibition will serve as a closing event for Dubai Art Season, showcasing the myriad facets of Arabic calligraphy and works produced by accomplished international calligraphers.
The exhibition, which takes place every two years, celebrates calligraphy as one of the most powerful art forms for highlighting the brilliance of the written word and putting forth powerful ideas that are related to Islamic heritage, as well as the region’s cultural and social identity.
The exhibition aims to shed light on the use of calligraphy in contemporary design and frame the art form in a modern context to enhance its appeal for today’s Islamic and Arab communities and artists. This ensures that calligraphy reaches the largest possible audience across various international cultures, while remaining true to its classical origins.
Dubai International Arabic Calligraphy Exhibition 2017 is welcoming more than 50 calligraphers, who will showcase a mixture of classical and modern artworks. 10 workshops, which are expected to attract over 150 participants, will run alongside the exhibition and provide deep insights into the history of this art form and its various styles.
The exhibition will run from 15th to 30th April 2017.
An opening ceremony will be held on the 18th April.
The workshops will run from 16th to the 25th April 2017
