Dubai Culture and the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) are transforming six of the Dubai Metro stations into museums showcasing creative cultural works. The MoU complements the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to transform the Dubai Metro Stations, which welcome millions of visitors every year, into galleries exhibiting artistic, cultural and creative works.
This unique initiative will create a series of permanent museums in outdoor spaces that showcase artistic and cultural works and innovations.
The initiative will result in bringing artistic, cultural, aesthetic and historical artifacts & creative works to the attention of the public. It will make art an enjoyable part of the daily life of commuters, thus transforming the metro stations into cultural, artistic and historical hubs.
RTA will provide and prepare the infrastructure needed for the stations, while Dubai Culture will drive the interior design, gallery contents and facilitate the artworks.
The six stations will have different themes. BurJuman Station will be transformed into music and art gallery, Emirates Towers Station will be transformed into Islamic illuminations & manuscripts, Financial Center Station will focus on Islamic Numismatics (coins) Gallery, Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall Station will be an e-library, and the Business Bay Station will be transformed into a photo gallery. Noor Bank Station will host a Museum of Contemporary Art.
The museums will also host artistic performances including music synchronised with the movement of the metro, light show on the roofs of stations, 3-D shows at stations and wrapping metro carriages using e-paper technology.
